The Krishi Vigyan Kendra is a leading,district level Farm Science and information Center, established in 1992 with financial assistance of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi at Borkhera, District Kota for speedy transfer of technology to the farmers fields. The operational area of this Krishi Vigyan Kendra comes under agro climatic Zone V in the south eastern part of Rajasthan. The aim of Krishi Vigyan Kendra is to reduce the time lag between Generation of technology at the research institutions and it's transfer to the farmer's field for increasing production, productivity and income from the agriculture and allied sectors on a sustainable basis. In order to achieve this goal, four mandates have been envisaged in the design of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
Kota district is situated in the south-eastern part of Rajasthan and comes under Agro climatic zone V. It lies between 24o25’ and 25o51’ North latitude and 75o37’ and 77o26’ East longitude. The Chambal is the principal perennial river of the district. The percent irrigated area of district is 62.15. Total population of the district is 19.51 lacs with the growth rate of 24.40 per cent (2011). The district has six Tehsils namely Ladpura, Digod, Pipalda, Ramganjmandi, Sangod & Kanwas. Out of which first three Tehsils comes under Chambal Command Area whereas last three Tehsils comes under non-Command area.
Kota is only district in the state where urban population is more than rural population. Out of total population 20.75 and 9.5 percent belongs to scheduled caste and scheduled tribes. The literacy percent of the district is 76.56. The average rainfall of the district is 732 mm. The main crops are soybean (77%), black gram (9%), Paddy(8%)and others (6%) in Kharif and wheat (46%), mustard (24%), coriander (21%),garlic(6%) & others(3%) in Rabi. The total cultivated area of the district is 3.4 lac ha out of which 2.1 lac ha is irrigated.
